INTERdisciplinary Approaches to Communication and Teamwork (INTERACT)

Welcome to the INTERACT Website

The INTERdisciplinary Approaches to Communication and Teamwork (INTERACT) project is designed to improve communication and teamwork on general medical hospital units. The intervention consists of Prepared Nurse-Physician Co-Leadership and Structured Inter-Disciplinary Rounds (SIDR). Pilot studies conducted at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) show improved teamwork and a reduction in the rate of adverse events as a result of these interventions. We expanded the interventions at NMH across all 7 general medical units beginning March 1, 2010. We are currently researching the effect of the broader implementation of the interventions with grant support from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. We plan to share results from the study as they become available. In the meantime, we are eager to share content and material from the work already completed.
