Department of Medicine

About Us

Dedicated to the future of care

The Department of Medicine provides residents with a thorough, broad-based education while giving patients individualized care through Feinberg-affiliated hospitals and care sites and conducting high-level basic and clinical research through our 12 specialized internal medicine divisions.

The unique culture at the Department of Medicine is built on its rich history of research and clinical innovation embedded in an exceptional clinical environment, driven by faculty and staff whose commitment and talent create patient care improvements through scientific advance.

These extraordinary strengths allow the Department to adapt to tremendous challenges and opportunities that are arising in healthcare. We have seen more change over recent years than in many preceding decades. As each of us contributes to expanding what we can achieve, we are driven by the same core mission: Patients First.”

Faculty Spotlight

Richard T D'Aquila

Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases)

Study of HIV persistence aims to develop a functional cure. This includes discovery of approaches to modulate cell proteins such as APOBEC3s, and translation to proof-of-concept clinical trials.

Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary and Critical Care) and Cell and Developmental Biology

Asthma; Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis; Pulmonary Fibrosis; Pulmonary Thromboembolism; Sarcoidosis

Eun-Young Kim

Research Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases)

My research focuses on molecular evolutionary mechanisms of HIV/SIV/influenza in host defense, antiretroviral drug resistance and genetic variation in HIV, HIV susceptibility to HIV infection and disease progression, and how host genetics and immunity affects HIV/influenza infection and dynamics. Research includes next generation sequencing of HIV and host genes and transcriptome to pursue a detailed genetic interrogation of host and virus interactions and host genes that regulate HIV or influenza infection.

Kevin J O'Leary

Professor of Medicine (Hospital Medicine)
