Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Northwestern University. Our goal is to provide residents with outstanding clinical training, a comprehensive educational program, and opportunities to participate in research. During rotations at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Chicago VA, residents encounter and manage a broad spectrum of conditions.

Dr. Antonio Alvarado was named the 2012 Resident Physician of the Year from the Community Health Clinic.

Fulltime staff and faculty at the CHC voted Tony for this award in appreciation of his commitment to his patients at the CHC. The award recognizes his "invaluable commitment and service to Community Health and ongoing support of the belief that no one should go without healthcare."

Northwestern McGaw Center for Graduate Medical Education and Feinberg School of Medicine in collaboration with Office of Diversity held the 6th Annual Residency Showcase on Saturday, May 4th. The event was prepared for current medical students from around the country interested in pursuing their residency training at Northwestern.

It is an annual tradition for all second year Northwestern residents to receive a textbook from the Department to thank them for their hard work and dedication. Congratulations and thank you to the Class of 2014!

This year, all residents were given Braunwald's Heart Disease - A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, 9th Edition. Dr. Robert Bonow of the Division of Cardiology is the senior editor of this edition, and he personally inscribed each copy and presented it to each resident. Braunwald's Heart Disease is known as the premier cardiology textbook.

Northwestern residents will again have an impressive showing at DDW 2012. Multiple posters and oral presentations will be presented on on a variety of topics. Thank you to our dedicated GI and Hepatology faculty mentors!

Fellowship Match Day was held in the beginning of December. Northwestern residents matched at highly competitive programs throughout the country.

While we appreciate the hard work of the residents in clinical care and research, we realize that a great deal of this success is the result of faculty mentorship. Thank you very much to all faculty mentors for all you do to support our residents’ academic pursuits, scholarly activity and career development.

Leila Kia (PGY3) presented an oral research presentation at the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases in San Francisco, CA in November, 2011.

She received the Resident Research Award for her project entitled “Role of pretransplant echocardiography in predicting post-operative complications in liver transplant patients”.

We are grateful to all hepatology faculty members who mentored Leila for this award.
