2011 best clinical teacher Joost Award

Every year, the graduating senior Feinberg School of Medicine students vote for their best clinical teacher in medical school. This year’s recipient, Dr. Robert Hirschtick, won the Joost Award for the fourth time in his career at Northwestern.

The department of medicine has won this award for 15 consecutive years. Dr. John Clarke is the record holder with 6, followed by Dr. Vinky Chadha (5) and Dr. Hirschtick (4). The award will be given out at Feinberg School of Medicine graduation on Thursday, May 19.

About Dr Hirschtick:

Deputy Chief, Medicine Service, Jesse Brown VA

Dr. Hirschtick is a faculty member in the division of General Internal Medicine and the Director of the Third Year clerkship in Medicine at the VA hospital. His area of clinical interest is HIV medicine. Dr. Hirschtick is an astute clinician and a wonderful teacher and mentor to both students and residents. In 2009, he was inducted to the department’s teaching hall of fame after being recognized year after year by senior residents as being a tremendous teacher and mentor.
