Michael Hoffman, MD Wins Compassionate Care Award

Congratulations to Michael J. Hoffman, MD for recently winning the 2012 Compassionate Care Award. Dr. Hoffman was nominated for the Attending Staff Award by six nurses in the Oncology services: Barbara Holmes Gobel, RN, MS, AOCN, Yvonne Rucker, RN, MSN, OCN, Abby Viall, RN, MSN, OCN, Debbie Mast, RN, BSN, OCN, Kaitlyn Johnson, RN, BSN, OCN and Priscilla Bell, RN, BSN, OCN.

The Compassionate Care Awards, sponsored annually by the Woman's Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, recognizes a physician on the medical staff, a fellow or medical resident, and a nurse or allied health professional who exemplify and serve as role models for the compassionate care of patients at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.

"The Compassionate Care Awards represent a significant opportunity to recognize the efforts of the Cancer Program's exceptional caregivers, and to reinforce the importance we all place on truly humanistic, patient-focused care," said Steve Rosen, Director of the Lurie Cancer Center.

Dr. Hoffman is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine. He attended medical school at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Northwestern (2004), followed by a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Northwestern. Dr. Hoffman was one of the first physicians to serve on Northwestern Memorial's Oncology/Hosptialist Comanagement group, and he later served as associate director.
