Third Annual Andres T. Blei, MD Memorial Lecture
Drs. Richard Green, William Lee, Estela Blei, and Daniel GangerIn memory of the beloved educator and researcher Andy Blei, the third annual Andres T. Blei, MD Memorial Lecure was held February 12. William M. Lee, MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center was our guest speaker at Medical Grand Rounds for the lecture.
Dr. Blei is remembered by colleagues, students and friends as an exemplary teacher, investigator and clinician. He enriched Northwestern through his humanism and dedication to excellence and is truly missed by all. Dr. Blei was an international leader in the field of hepatology, having been instrumental in the development of the Center for Liver Diseases at Northwestern University where he served as Division Chief of Hepatology. His contributions to the field were far reaching with research interests in mechanisms of hepatic encephalopathy and serving as Editor-in-Chief of Hepatology, the leading journal of his field, which flourished under his leadership.
Dr. Lee is the Meredith Mosle Chair in Liver Diseases and Professor of Digestive and Liver Diseases at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Lee is also a Clinical Professor of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. His lecture was titled "Acute Liver Failure 2013: 20 Years of ALF Research."
