Division Chief's Letter

On behalf of the Division of Cardiology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, I would like to invite you to explore our cardiology fellowship program as the pivotal next step in developing your career as a cardiovascular physician and/or cardiovascular scientist.
The clinical training programs in internal medicine and cardiology at Northwestern have a history of excellence in patient care and teaching. The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital ranks 21st in the nation among thousands of heart and heart surgery programs evaluated for the 2009 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Hospitals". This ranking makes the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute the highest rated heart program of any Illinois hospital. This recognition is a reflection of the exceptional care provided by our professional staff, our team-based approach to our patients, and our commitment to quality.
The clinical facilities at Northwestern Memorial Hospital provide our patients with advanced, state-of-the-art cardiovascular care. The Jesse Brown VA Medical Center provides the opportunity for expanded clinical experience, teaching, and research. Our clinical programs have grown dramatically in the last five to six years, as measured by the quantity of inpatient and outpatient visits, volume of invasive and noninvasive procedures, clinical research investigations, and number of managed care contracts. The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, created in 2004, has accelerated the pace of cardiac procedures and clinical research, and provides strong opportunities for translational research with the Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute.
The strong academic tradition of Northwestern University, our location in downtown Chicago's Gold Coast area, and our growth in clinical volume and research productivity attract the highest quality physicians, clinical investigators, and basic scientists to our faculty. The excellence of our faculty members, in all subspecialties of cardiovascular disease, makes our training program a vibrant, stimulating, and academically rewarding experience for our fellows.
We are proud of the cardiology fellowship training program at Northwestern. The program is in constant evolution, with ongoing input from both fellows and faculty members. The division is committed to providing our fellows with the best clinical and research training in cardiology.
We welcome you to consider Northwestern University for your cardiology fellowship.
