Geriatric Medicine Fellowship
The goal of our one year ACGME-accredited fellowship program is to provide fellows with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to achieve excellence in clinical geriatrics, teaching, and research. The Geriatrics Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital is ranked 11th in the nation (top program in Chicago), according to U.S. News and World Report (July 2013).
The fellowship program offers clinical experiences covering the full spectrum of problems confronted in the elderly. Program sites include Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, The Clare (a skilled nursing facility (SNF)) and Warren Barr Pavilion (a SNF/long term care facility). Rotations at these sites include inpatient geriatric consultation service, ambulatory care, sub-acute and long-term care, acute rehabilitation, cognitive neurology, hospice/palliative care, geriatric psychiatry and other subspecialty experiences.
Faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics comprise experienced and dedicated geriatricians with research backgrounds in cancer and aging, drug safety, bone health and osteoporosis, pharmacoeconomics, dementia, hospital safety and transitions of care, long term care, and HIV and Aging. Formal collaboration in research and geriatrics/gerontology education exists between the Division and the Buehler Center on Aging of Northwestern University. We offer an optional second year research experience to interested and qualified candidates.
