Abel N. Kho, MD
Abel N. Kho MD, MS received his MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and completed a residency and Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. He completed a National Library of Medicine Medical Informatics Fellowship at the Regenstrief Institute, Inc (www.regenstrief.org). Dr. Kho is currently Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of the Medical Informatics Program at the Feinberg School of Medicine.
His research involves the creation of electronic networks spanning multiple institutions. He developed an electronic network to enable infection control providers to share infection data across the major healthcare providers within Indianapolis. The system currently tracks over 11,000 patients with drug-resistant infections in the region and provides secure real-time admission alerts to infection control providers. He continues this AHRQ funded research as a Regenstrief Affiliated Scientist. His research interests include the application of geographic information systems, and large dataset driven decision support to improving infection control processes.
He serves as Co-Chair of the Informatics Working Group for the NHGRI- funded eMERGE consortium, which aims to link Electronic Medical Record data with genomic data across multiple institutions. He is the principle investigator of the Chicago HIT Regional Extension Center (www.chitrec.org) and co-directs the Center in partnership with Fred Rachman of the Alliance of Chicago Community Health Centers. He is an active member in the American Medical Informatics Association (www.amia.org) and currently serves on the Public Policy Committee.
