John P. Galvin, MD

Dr. John Galvin returned to Chicago after completing his internal medicine residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. He received his undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame, followed by a masters in cell biology from Loyola University and a masters in public health at the University of Illinois. He went on to complete his medical education at the University of Illinois School of Medicine and internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai.  John completed his fellowship Hematology-Oncology at Northwestern University in 2012 and stayed on to pursue advanced fellowship in stem cell transplant. 


Stephane Doucet, MD FRCPC

Dr Doucet received his M.D. degree from University of Montréal in Montréal, Canada. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at University of Montréal as well. Dr Doucet is Canadian board certified (FRCPC) in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. He joins Northwestern University to pursue a fellowship in Advanced lymphoproliferative diseases. After this fellowship, he will go back to Montréal to work as an attending in the Centre Hospitalier de l'Universite de Montreal (CHUM), a teaching hospital affiliated with University of Montréal. His clinical and research areas of interest are Non-Hodgkin lymphomas, Hodgkin lymphoma, EBV and HIV associated lymphomas and CLL.


Sara Barnato, MD

Dr. Barnato received her B.A. degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She then moved to Chicago to attend Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine and pursued an Internal Medicine Residency through Northwestern McGaw Medical Center, completed in June 2009. She is licensed and board certified in the field of Internal Medicine. After residency, she joined the Center for Management of Complex Chronic Care at Jesse Brown VA as a MD Post Resident Fellow in order to pursue her interests in clinical research. Her research has been focused on the use and potential adverse reactions revolving around erythropoietin stimulating agents (ESAs).

 


Oluwatoyosi (Toyosi) Onwuemene, MD

Dr. Toyosi Onwuemene received her bachelor of arts degree in biology and chemistry from Wesleyan College, Macon GA.  She then went to Duke University where she received her MD degree and stayed on to complete a residency in internal medicine.  She joins us at Northwestern with an interest in benign hematology.  Her current area of interests are hemoglobinopathies with a focus on sickle cell disease. 


Kehinde Adekola, MBBS

Dr. Kehinde Adekola graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria. She subsequently went to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where she completed a fellowship in clinical chemistry, and is currently certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the National Registry of Certified Chemists. Prior to coming to Northwestern for her hematology/oncology fellowship, she completed her residency in internal medicine at SUNY Downstate in New York.

 


Ari Polish, MD

Dr. Ari Polish was a political science major as an undergrad and only started to think about a career in medicine after graduating from college.  He developed an interest in Hematology-Oncology during his third year of medical school at Loyola when he had the opportunity to work with Oncology patients at the VA.  During residency at Evanston Hospital he worked on a study focused on molecular markers that could indicate a positive response to Tarceva in NSCLC patients.  Dr. Polish looks forward to continuing to do research which can help individualize treatment regimens for cancer patients. 

 


Vaibhav Sahai, MD MS

Dr. Sahai received his MBBS from Government Medical College in Amritsar, India and then completed a Postgraduate diploma in Biomedical Informatics in Noida, India. He then received a MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health in Boston following which he spent a year doing a Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He has pursued research in lung cancer volumetric imaging
and genetic changes in colorectal, hepatocellular and fibrolamellar carcinomas. He then continued his education in Pittsburgh where he finished his residency training in Internal Medicine at University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center.


Frank Zhou, MD PhD

Dr. Zhou has an interest in incorporating the role of biostatistics in cancer patient treatment and care. After receiving his medical degree from Shanghai Medical University, he pursued postgraduate training in UK and Canada, and received his PhD in Biostatistics & Epidemiology from McGill University, Montreal. He gained additional research experience at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Division of Biometrics/ Medicine, Boston. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center before joining the Hematology and Oncology Fellowship at Northwestern University. He is very enthusiastic about continuing his interests in cancer survival analysis, database based therapeutic target screening, advanced clinical trial methodology and comparative effectiveness evaluation.


Ryan Gentzler, MD MS

Dr. Ryan Gentzler received his B.S. degree in Biology from Davidson College before attending medical school at Temple University School of Medicine. He stayed in Philadelphia for Internal Medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. During residency, he earned a master's degree as part of the NIH K30 Clinical Research Curriculum program in Human Investigation to help prepare for a career in clinical research.

 


Valerie Nelson, MD

Dr. Valerie Nelson completed her undergraduate education at the University of Illinois with a BS in Psychology. She spent two years teaching high school science in rural Mississippi with Teach for America before starting medical school at the University of Chicago. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern and is excited to continue her training here as a Hematology/Oncology fellow.

 


Mitul Gandhi, MD

Mitul Gandhi is a first year fellow in Hematology-Oncology at Northwestern. He completed his BA in Molecular Biology at Rutgers, before earning his MD at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. He subsequently completed his Internal Medicine training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is excited about his fellowship and is interested in an academic career focusing on translational research.

Locke Bryan, MD

Dr. Bryan received his B.S. degree in Biology from Millsaps College. Before starting medical school at the University of Mississippi, he spent three years performing basic science research in virology/immunology with the Department of Microbiology. He completed his residency training at the University of Vermont, where he was also the chief resident. During residency, his research focused on venous thrombosis. Dr. Bryan looks forward to his training at Northwestern University.
