Palliative Medicine Fellowship
The Northwestern Palliative Medicine Fellowship Training Program, in existence since 1998, is accredited by ACGME. This one year fellowship consists of clinical rotations as described below. Research and educational opportunities are available with the EPEC (Eduction in Palliative and End of Life Care) Project, the Division of Hospital Medicine, the Buehler Center on Aging, Health and Society, the Robert Lurie Cancer Center and other departments of the university. There are multiple opportunities to teach medical students and residents. Past fellows have gone on to faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin, University of Pittsburgh, MD Anderson, Yale University, Northwestern University, San Diego Hospice, Rush University, Medical College of Wisconsin and Capital Hospice.
Clinical rotations include:
Palliative Care Service (9 months)
Palliative Care Inpatient Unit (3 months)
Palliative Care Consultation Service (3 months)
Home Hospice (3 months)
Long-Term Care
Pediatric Palliative Care (2 weeks)
Elective time (4 weeks): Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Northwestern Interventional Pain Clinic, Spirituality, Psychiatry and International experiences
Candidates who have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Family Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Neurology, Surgery, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Radiology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology are eligible to apply. Positions are contingent upon eligibility for a full unrestricted Illinois medical license. If applicable, candidates must also possess a valid VISA and be eligible to work in the United States.

Applications are being accepted for the year beginning July 1, 2014. Our program now accepts all applications through the ERAS website at http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/. If you plan to apply for our 2014 positions your ERAS file must contain the following items before we begin to consider your application:
(1) Curriculum vitae (including a list of publications)
(2) Personal statement
(3) Official medical school transcript
(4) Official Dean's Letter
(5) Letters of recommendation from three faculty members familiar with your current experience, one of whom must be your residency program director.
(6) Photocopy of original examination results with dates
(7) Photocopy of ECFMG certificate, if applicable
(8) Photocopy of visa/citizenship papers, if applicable
