Peri-Operative Service

Pete Kallas, MDThe Peri-operative Service grew out of a general internal medicine clinic in October 2003, with original members Drs. Peter Kallas and Anjali Desai, and Mary Murray, PA. The service expanded and merged with the Division in September 2008. Currently,there are 4 physicians and 1 PA who spend 100% of their time on peri-op, with two additional physicians that split time between peri-op and the other services in the Division. We anticipate further growth in this area.

Patients are referred to the pre-operative outpatient clinic by primary care physicians and surgicalspecialists for evaluation of risk prior to surgery. These patients may have multiple clinic visits prior totheir procedure for medication titration and cardiac testing as necessary. The physician that saw thepatient in the clinic will then make an effort to follow the patient in the hospital after surgery. The perioperativeservices also receives new consults from the surgical services.
