Congratulations to Luke Hansen and Keiki Hinami who were both awarded Young Researchers Awards by The Society of Hospital Medicine. The SHM Young Researchers Award is a mentored research award intended to support junior hospitalist faculty as they apply for a research career development award. Each will receive $50,000 for their work.

 

June 2011

Jeffrey Barsuk was awarded the Excellence Award for clinical innovation. The award is given to a physician who has improved the quality of care by developing innovative clinical practices, techniques, or new technology.

Kevin O'Leary has agreed to assume the newly created NMFF position of Medical Director of Quality and Safety. While this is part-time role, it will be critically important to advancing NMFF’s desire to expand patient access to our services and to assure that we remain a leader in providing high “value” services to all our patients.

Congratulations to Eytan Szmuilowicz on being a recipient of the Department of Medicine's teaching award.

 

Congratulations to Kevin O'Leary on receiving this year's NMFF Excellence Award for Clinical Innovation. Dr. O’Leary serves as Associate Chief in the Division of Hospital Medicine and is an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. He also co-chairs the Department of Medicine Quality Management Committee and is the competency leader for Systems Awareness and Team-Based Care for the Feinberg School of Medicine’s Curriculum Renewal Project. His clinical and research interests are focused on using enhancements in interdisciplinary teamwork to reduce adverse events in the hospital. Dr. O’Leary led efforts to implement unit based co-leadership and Structured Inter-Disciplinary Rounds (SIDR) which has resulted in improved teamwork ratings among hospital professionals and reduced the rate of preventable adverse events on medical units.
