Objectives of the Clinical Lupus Research Program

Develop clinical research program to understand and improve outcomes in patients with lupus

Provide outstanding clinical care for patients with lupus including new treatment options

Train the next generation of young investigators to continue the drive for the cure of this disease

Collaborate with basic scientists to uncover the cause of lupus and to discover new treatments

 

Focus Areas for Clinical Lupus Research Program
• Assess risk of cancer, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular complications in SLE
• Continue national & international collaborations studying genetic risk factors for disease susceptibility & severity in SLE
• Participate in discovery of biomarkers
• Design, monitor & perform clinical trials testing innovative therapies in SLE

This project within our ongoing MCRC heavily involves the MCRC Epidemiology Program, Epidemiologic Studies of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.  Program members and collaborators are shown in Table 1.
