The Division of Sports Medicine, in the academic Department of Medicine, has existed since 2000. Chief of the Division is Stephen Adams, MD, FACP, FACEP. Dr. Adams is Board Certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM) and Emergency Medicine (ABEM), and in the subspecialty of Sports Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In addition to serving as Division Chief, Dr. Adams is the Team Physician of the Chicago Cubs National League Baseball Club (since 2000), and is the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of Major League Baseball in New York City. He is a professor of both medicine and emergency medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and is the Chief Emeritus of the Division of Emergency Medicine of the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University. He also serves as the Medical Director of Emergency Preparedness/Disaster Services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Patients are seen by direct physician referral only.
