Northwestern Memorial Hospital

On May 1, 1999, Northwestern opened a two-million square foot hospital. The medical center includes a 17-story Feinberg Inpatient Pavilion and a 22-story Galter Outpatient Pavilion, which share an eight-floor base containing public spaces and diagnostic and therapeutic services. Located in the Streeterville neighborhood, Northwestern Memorial serves a diverse patient population and remains a leader in indigent health care in The Chicagoland area.

NMFF

Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation was founded in 1980. Today, the Foundation includes more than 600 physicians and over 1,000 health professionals and other staff, working together in more than 40 medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties. NMFF physicians provide outpatient services in a large, state-of-the-art Ambulatory Care Center housed within the 2 million square foot Northwestern Memorial Hospital complex.

NMH: Among Nation’s Best

In the 2009 US News and World Report Rankings, Northwestern Memorial Hospital had multiple specialties in the top 25 in the country including orthopedics, gynecology, geriatrics, cardiology, cardiac surgery and urology. NMH has been named among the nation’s “100 Most Wired” Hospitals according to the results of the 2010 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study released in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. This is the 10th time that NMH has been named to the prestigious list and honored as a leader for its advanced use of information technology since the award began in 1999. This state of the art hospital also contains individual, computer equipped call rooms for residents and dedicated conference rooms for inpatient ward teams, with mobile computer units using WiFi access.

Inpatient Facilities

The Feinberg Inpatient Pavilion houses 492 inpatient private rooms, including 92 private intensive care rooms. The rooms were designed with a family orientation and feature specially designed window seats that convert into pullout beds, and tasteful artwork demonstrated to promote the healing process.

Just as the hospital provides separate areas for patients, families and staff, patient rooms are "zoned", with chairs, bookshelves and a window on one side of the bed, and space for medical staff and equipment on the other.

NMH has also achieved magnet status, which recognizes nursing excellence.

Prentice Women’s Hospital

Prentice Women’s Hospital opened its new facility on October 20, 2007. It moved from its original facility to a new one million square foot state-of-the-art hospital dedicated to providing care for the unique needs of women through all stages of life.

Prentice is attached to NMH via a tunnel. The top two floors are reserved for cancer patients.

Lurie Cancer Center

The Lurie Cancer Center is one of only 40 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the nation. Recently, The Center was named a 2009 Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award winner by the American College of Surgeons.

The Lurie Cancer Center is affiliated with four teaching hospitals in Chicago—Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Children's Memorial Hospital, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and the Jesse Brown Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, treating more than 10,000 new cancer cases each year.

Lakeside VA Outpatient Clinic

Residents see ambulatory patients at the VA Lakeside clinic one block from NMH. The facility opened in 2007 and is equipped with laboratories and X-ray machines. Continuity with patients and preceptors, is stressed at this site. Each day, at least 20 residents see patients at the Lakeside VA clinics.
 

Jesse Brown VA Hospital

The Jesse Brown VA Medical Center consists of a 200-bed acute care facility and four community based outpatient clinics. The facility provides care to approximately 58,000 enrolled veterans who reside in the City of Chicago, and in four counties in Northwestern Indiana.
 

Multipurpose Center

NMH houses a major conference center, including an auditorium, banquet hall and high-tech learning laboratories, enabling NMH to lead and host important national conferences. In addition, a comprehensive Health Learning Center was developed for patients, visitors and the community.
 

Feinberg School of Medicine

Over the last century and a half, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has built on the foundation of leaders and innovators to become a nationally renowned center for exceptional clinical and research training.

NIH funding at the Feinberg School increased by a remarkable 21% this year, and includes support for projects such as the Lurie Cancer Center, the Center for Reproductive Research, Genome-wide Studies from the NUgene Biorepository, and the Center for Structural Genomics of Infectious Diseases. All teaching faculty hold appointments at the medical school.
