Resident Research Day 2012
The 21st annual Department of Medicine Resident Research Day was held on June 4, 2012. Thirty residents presented research projects in basic science, clinical research and quality improvement. A broad range of Northwestern faculty mentors helped residents excel in planning, completing and assessing their projects.
First prize winners were Monica Edwards (mentors Lisa Neff, Lewis Landsberg, Robert Kushner) for clinical research on the effect of weight loss in obesity on core body temperature and brown adipose tissue activity. In basic science, Lauren Nye (mentors Andrey Ugolkov and Vincent Cryns) received first prize for her project on Zinc picolinate, a GSK-3 inhibitor and its effect on breast cancer cells. Rashad Belin and Sergio Chiarella both received honorable mention for their projects.
Thank you to our residency alumni judges: Calvin Brown Jr, MD (1982), Anna Lam, MD (2003), John Rice, MD (2007), and Betty Tran, MD, MS (2008).
