- The Department of Medicine's Intern Boot camp received a 2012 Readiness for Reform Challenge Award from the American Association of Medical Colleges in November. Boot camp started in 2011 for internal medicine and neurology interns and with NMH support was expanded to include emergency medicine and anesthesiology interns in 2012. Boot camp includes training in paracentesis, lumbar puncture, bedside emergencies, handoffs, difficult conversations, mechanical ventilation, and cardiac auscultation. The initiative was led by Diane Wayne, MD, Vice Chair for Education and Professor of Medicine and Jeffrey Barsuk, MD, Associate Professor in Hospital Medicine. The Department of Medicine received $5,000, and a paper on the project appears in the February issue of Academic Medicine. Click here to read the paper.

- Allison Lyons et al submission to the 2012 Midwest Society of General Internal Medicine Meeting entitled "Progress Toward Ensuring Clinical Competence of Medical School Graduates via a Boot Camp Curriculum" was selected as Best Research Abstract.
- Congratulations, 13 West! The Feinberg 13 West Medicine Unit again won the Patient Satisfaction Traveling Trophy for surveys returned by patients. They have now won the award so many times that they've been retired to the Hall of Fame. Props to all the residents and attendings and the entire 13 East staff!
