International Exchange
The Feinberg School of Medicine offers medical students opportunities to engage in clinical work and rotations at one of eighteen affiliated universities, health clinics and INGOs around the world. These affiliations and partnerships allow Feinberg medical students to do rotations at teaching hospitals, work with distinguished researchers at partner universities, and learn about public health issues in a global context.
The Center for Global Health integrates global health education programming and faculty research initiatives in the field of Global Health within the Feinberg School of Medicine, as well as advises medical students on global health opportunities abroad, and facilitates funding opportunities for current students. Additionally, the Center will provide a space for NU faculty and research professionals with interests in Global Health to collaborate on research opportunities and new proposals.

Student Perspective:
My International Exchange at Makerere University
Every year, several Northwestern University medical students travel to Uganda to capitalize on the partnership with Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. The initiative is a combined effort by Northwestern's Medical School and School of Public Health. As a result of this partnership, the exchange offers several options, including rural and Mulago hospital rotations, and an excellent chance to participate in research.

First year medical students have the chance to dive into this new environment under supervision of local attendings and nurses, and are often surprised by the level of autonomy granted to them.
Fourth year medical students are on the frontlines of the understaffed hospital and rural clinics, providing first-hand invaluable support to the local medical staff.
