Patient Care
Our Clinical Services
Most of the physician faculty in General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics practice in the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation (NMFF). NMFF in an academic, multi-specialty physician practice plan comprising 400 physicians and nearly 650 health professionals and staff. The physicians are full-time faculty members of Feinberg School of Medicine and work in more than 30 medical and surgical practices.
The Foundation offices are in a new state-of-the-art medical center complex at 675 North St. Clair Street. The new medical center, owned jointly by Northwestern Memorial Hospital and NMFF, covers a full city block and is composed of 2 million square feet of space. The structure has two large towers: the 17-story Feinberg Pavilion which houses 492 inpatient beds and the 22-story Galter Pavilion which is dedicated to outpatient care. These pavilions are connected by five floors of diagnostic and therapeutic services and three floors of public space. NMFF owns 268,000 square feet spanning seven floors in the Galter Pavilion.
In the new medical center, the Foundation's space is aesthetically pleasing, easy to navigate, and comfortably functional. Moreover, the overall design supports operational efficiency and innovation. For the convenience of NMFF patients, there is a Foundation reception desk in the main lobby of the Galter Pavilion as well as a Patient Services Center where patients can seek assistance, talk confidentially with staff or family members, or relax in a comfortable, inviting seating area. This new facility allows NMFF to provide health care services to patients in a pleasant, patient-centered and compassionate environment.
Geriatrics
In response to the needs of our growing aging population, Northwestern has established a comprehensive geriatric program to care for adults over the age of 65 years. The goal of our clinical services is to maintain the independence and enhance the quality of life of seniors. Seniors often face health issues that are more complex than those of younger patients. Our geriatric medicine physicians have additional training and expertise in the clinical care of seniors, and our social worker can connect seniors and their families to needed resources that they are entitled. Faculty geriatricians are able to provide primary care to seniors or work in partnership with individuals’ existing primary care physicians to assist with the evaluation and treatment of medical problems such as memory loss or Alzheimer’s disease.
Northwestern Geriatrics has consistently been named as one of the best Geriatric programs nationally by US. News and World Report.
