General Internal Medicine Research Fellowship
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine's Division of General Internal Medicine hosts a two-year fellowship in clinical research. The fellowship provides mentorship, experience and coursework to train participants for research careers in academic medicine. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis generally between July and September for the subsequent academic year.
About the Fellowship
Education
Mentorship will be provided by faculty from the Division of General Internal Medicine who explore a wide variety of topics and methodologies, including health services research, healthcare delivery, epidemiology, health communication, health literacy, health promotion and behavior change, community health, health disparities, aging, human factors and informatics.
Journal Club is held on select Wednesdays where research and clinical faculty present critical reviews of current studies and teach fundamental skills in critical appraisal of scientific literature.
Research
- Fellows spend the majority of time designing, carrying out, analyzing and disseminating their own independent research.
- Fellows receive training in research presentation, writing, publishing and funding.
- Fellows have the opportunity to earn a Masters level degree, in such programs as Public Health, Health Services and Outcomes Research, or Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety, Biostatistics or Clinical Investigation through the Northwestern University Center for Education in Health Sciences.
- Fellows will be appointed as Postdoctoral Fellow with a courtesy appointment of Instructor within the Department of Medicine.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
Clinical Experience
Every week, fellows will spend two half-days providing clinical care in a General Internal Medicine Primary Care Practice.
