 Clinical Research Associate

The Division of Allergy & Immunology in the Department of Medicine at Feinberg School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Associate to join the Peters Research Team. This team is led by Dr. Anju Peters with the aim of improving our understanding allergic and respiratory conditions including asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis, allergic rhinitis, and food allergies. The team works directly with patients in research studies.

The Clinical Research Associate will be responsible for managing research-related activities for both observational and novel interventional studies in allergic and respiratory conditions. This may involve recruiting subjects for studies, preparation and submission of IRB regulatory materials, preparation and submission of OSR documents, administering tests &/or questionnaires; collecting, compiling, tabulating &/or processing responses; gathering information; &/or assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports. The candidate will need to ensure that all study activities are completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all current local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the Northwestern University Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).

Specific Responsibilities:

Research focuses may include:

  • Recruitment of participants
  • Collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Develop and maintain study protocols and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree (RN, MS, MA, or other relevant Master’s degree), or an MD, PhD, or PharmD
  • Prior experience with leading pharmaceutical clinical trials from initiation through closeout. Experience in study startup, recruitment, electronic data capture, regulatory processes, and patient care.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • The candidate must be able to work independently on research projects under general supervision. This position is located on the Northwestern University Chicago Campus with an option for one day per week remote.  Research Associate/Scientific Writer

Job Summary:

 The Division of Allergy and Immunology in the Department of Medicine at Feinberg School of Medicine is seeking a Research Associate to join our Division. The Division is led by immunologist Dr. Stephanie Eisenbarth, MD, PhD, and houses 17 clinical and research faculty members. Primary responsibilities include preparation of proposals and grant applications, researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in areas that support Allergy and Immunology programs, drafting annual updates to funded programs, and preparation and editing of scientific manuscripts. These responsibilities will be conducted with research faculty, administration and the Chief of the Division. Therefore strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary for this position.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Generates high-quality proposals, narratives, applications and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with all policies and procedures of Northwestern University, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies in collaboration with divisional research faculty
  • Researches and identifies new government, corporate, foundation and private funding prospects to match
Divisional priorities
  • Drafting and editing annual updates to funded programs with divisional research faculty
  • Drafting and editing intellectual property submissions and invention disclosures with divisional research faculty
  • Help advance the social media presence and media announcements/coverage of the division
  • Works with faculty to research, develop, write and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers and grant proposals including training grants, research grants, and industry partnership proposals
  • Works with divisional research faculty to write and edit letters of support and recommendation and submission of career awards
  • Develop and edit submissions for philanthropic support of institutional initiatives by faculty
  • Manuscript preparation and editing in collaboration with divisional research faculty
  • Meets regularly with faculty to discuss current and new funding needs
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Position will report to the Chief of the Division of Allergy and Immunology and will be welcome to join immunology scientific conferences/meetings at Northwestern.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD, PhD, or equivalent degree
  • Prior experience with grant and manuscript writing and editing, statistical analysis, public communication
  • Ideal candidates will have work experience as editors at a peer-reviewed immunology journal

Minimum Competencies:

  • Must be able to collaborate with faculty on writing projects and have strong relationship-building skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Background in science with immunology expertise
  • The ability to think logically, understand complex ideas, and critically assess data and concepts
  • Good organizational and time and project management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Resilience, flexibility, persistence, and self-motivation
  • A sound understanding of standard computer programs
