Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology and Hepatology)
Dr. Cohen practices General Gastroenterology with additional special focuses on Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and non surgical treatment of hemorrhoids. Dr. Cohen is originally from Potomac, Maryland. He completed his undergraduate work at Cornell University and medical school at the University of Maryland. Dr. Cohen moved to Chicago in 1998 where he completed his residency at Northwestern followed by a 4 year combined clinical and research GI fellowship under an NIH training grant at the University of Chicago. Dr. Aadam is an interventional gastroenterologist with specialized expertise in gastrointestinal oncology as well as complex pancreas and biliary disorders. He is part of a mutli-disciplinary team that incorporates the latest research and state of the art technology into a patient centered comprehensive care plan. Assistant Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology and Hepatology)
I perform primary and secondary endoscopic (non-surgical) therapies for obesity, including placement of the Orbera gastric balloon, the Aspire Assist device and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. I also perform gastro-jejunal outlet reduction for weight regain after bariatric surgery. I have also been trained to use the EsophyX device (TIF procedure) as a minimally invasive (non-surgical) treatment for GERD. I am also interested in endoscopic treatment of post-surgical complications and endoscopic suturing.

In the Tetreault Lab, our goal is to better understand the crosstalk between epithelial cells and their surrounding microenvironment (immune cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells). A particular area of expertise of our laboratory is in defining the role of epithelial inflammatory mediators in esophageal tissue homeostasis and esophageal disease pathogenesis. Our diseases of interest include esophageal cancer, eosinophilic esophagitis, scleroderma esophageal disease and achalasia. Dr. Hirano is Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He attended college at Yale University, medical school at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his medical residency and GI fellowship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
